Summary
Because of the tighter finances people are trying to save money by making their food go further. An FSA survey of nearly 2,000 people across the UK suggested more than half were trying to make better use of leftover food and they were ignoring use-by dates, and kept leftovers in the fridge for long periods of time. The number of cases of food poisoning is highest in the summer as the warmer weather means germs can grow at a quicker rate and each year there are around 70,000 recorded cases of food poisoning in England and Wales. If you want to keep your food longer than the advice from Andrew Wilson of the British Dietetic Association would be “Always follow good food hygiene rules when preparing and storing any high risk foods such as meat, fish etc.”

Reaction
First impression I got from this article was “look
out, leftovers are dangerous!” It seems almost like leftovers are suddenly the
greatest threat for your health and the greatest evil in the world. I have been
eating leftovers my entire life and I have never had food poisoning or what so
ever. Of course, I agree that you mustn’t eat food that have been in the fridge
for too long and you have to keep in mind that use-by dates are there not just
for fun. So, leftover food is not dangerous but the way people are ignoring food hygiene rules is.

BeantwoordenVerwijderenThis just seems nasty to me, seriously people can’t be that tight with money. If you want to save money on something buy less clothes, turn of you electronics, something else than saving it by messing with your left over food, seriously!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenLike Marianne says. Just do not make food the thing you save on! Sure, people are not rich these days, but try to save from somthing else. Leftovers are fine, but only if they are recently left over!
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThis is disgusting man! I rather live poor than eat expired food. There is a chance you’ll get poisoned. Why do people even investigate this? Why on earth would you just ignore the dates? Just like Marianne just mentioned. You could also save money by buying fewer clothes or other things that are not necessary.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenI agree with all the comments above, the expire date is not something you can't ignore, people will get sick because of this.
BeantwoordenVerwijderenThere is no problem with eating leftovers, as long as they are still recent. Like you said, the expiration date isn't there for nothing. Although, I agree with the comments above, food can't be the biggest cause of money problems. Like Marianne said, you can also buy fewer/cheaper clothes or electronics, I think that's a bigger problem.
